II. Add Questions, Previewing, Saving & Publishing Surveys

 Add Questions


Now that the survey details have been completed it is time to add questions to the survey.

If you are using a phone or a tablet, the screens will look slightly different to those displayed in this guide and the ability to drag a question onto the survey isn't available.

On the left hand side of the screen (or when you click Add on a phone/tablet) you will see the following list of question type categories:




Within each category of question there are a number of question types, each offer different options and abilities

There is a search box at the top of the list that filters the question types for speed.




If you are not sure about the question type, click the ? and a summary of the question types purpose, usage and look will be displayed



When you have decided on the question type that you require, either click the  + in the help screen above or click the question type option and the item will be added to the survey.

Tip. On Desktop or Larger Display Devices, you are able to click and drag the question to survey, and position it in the list of questions

You will now be presented with the added question edit mode, in this case single-line text:



Different options will be presented depending on the question type chosen and they will change the behaviour of the question

Options that are required are shown ending with *

You will notice the toolbar at the top of the question section:



The icons have the following purpose:

  1. Question Type Identifier - Shows at a glance what the question type is
  2. Preview - Show preview of how the question will look when published
  3. Copy - Make cloned copy of the question
  4. Delete -Remove the question
Lets go ahead add a title & description and click the preview icon



Notice that the options have been replace by the preview and the icons have changed 

The icons are now as follows:

  1. Question Type Identifier - Shows at a glance what the question type is
  2. Edit - Return to editing the question
  3. Change Order - Drag and Drop handle to move the question's position in the survey
  4. Copy - Make cloned copy of the question
  5. Delete -Remove the question
Lets now copy this question by clicking the copy icon, and you should have something like shown below



Lets edit the new question (2), notice all the settings are the same, but lets change the text to the following:




Now go back to preview mode:



And drag question 2 above question 1 then drop using the drag icon



You will see that the question has been moved and the numbering has been altered.

Previewing the Survey

Its always useful to test the survey as you are building it, to ensure it behaves as you expect.

To do this click the eye icon in the top menu bar as shown below



This will show the survey as it would be once published



Test response data can be added to check all is working correctly.

To quit without testing, lick the X in the left hand side of the menu bar. 

To complete the test with data click the finish button at the end of the survey or the finish icon in the top right.

This will return you to the create screen

Saving the Survey

To save the survey as a draft to return to at a later point, click the disk icon

 

When finished saving the icon changes to a tick, you can now exit the application and return to finish editing at another time.

Returning to the create survey screen will show any saved draft surveys ,which can be clicked on to return to the previous state



Publishing the Survey

When all questions are added and the testing is complete, the survey can be published ready for respondents to complete, click the publish button in the top right of the create survey page loaded with your draft.



At the following popup screen click the tick to continue



If you are presented with the channel pop up, its time give yourself a channel name, this is required.



Enter a name and description that best describes yourself or your surveys purposes.

You can send the channel name to your friends that use the service and are able to share and respond to each other surveys when they become available.

When this is complete the system will now process your survey and will return you to the live survey section of the system.
